Swift Action by WBCCW NCRP Cell Saves ₹20 Lakhs from Cyber Fraud in Purba Medinipur

On March 10, 2026, at approximately 7:00 PM, the NCRP Cell of the West Bengal Cyber Crime Wing (WBCCW) received a cyber fraud complaint from a resident of Purba Medinipur district, namely Utpal Dhali (name changed to protect privacy). The complaint, involving a fraudulent transaction of ₹20 lakhs, was promptly registered through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (cybercrime.gov.in).

Acting with exceptional speed and coordination, the Financial Investigation (FI) Team of the NCRP Cell immediately initiated tracing of the money trail. Through swift technical analysis and rapid inter-agency coordination, the team successfully identified the flow of funds and managed to place the entire defrauded amount of ₹20 lakhs on hold within just one hour of receiving the complaint.

The timely intervention prevented further dissipation of the funds and significantly increased the chances of recovery for the victim. The case stands as a strong example of how prompt reporting and rapid response can effectively combat cyber-enabled financial crimes.
